Our hearts to God and Pascal

"God of Abraham, God of Isaac, God of Jacob, not of the philosophers and scholars...Joy, joy, joy, tears of joy...'This is life eternal that they might know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.' Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ...May I not fall from him forever...I will not forget your word. Amen."

These are the words written by the renowned philosopher, mathematician and scholar Blaise Pascal after his conversion, or maybe better said encounter with the Living God, in 1654. I love this simple, but perfect explanation of who God is to the true believer. When His light is shed into our hearts, we know with our hearts. This faith we speak so much about is so easily put aside by many of us and is so often falsely known. You can believe rationally and philosophically and morally all you want to on the name of Jesus Christ, but you have not found a saving faith until this light reaches your very heart. And in truth, while I can tell you to seek the Lord with all your heart, and as He promises, you will find Him, only the Lord can put this Light, His Spirit, the light of true faith, into our hearts.

My son, give me your heart, and let your eyes follow my ways. Proverbs 23:26

"Now, therefore," says the LORD, "Turn to Me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping and with mourning. So rend your heart, and not your garments; return to the LORD your God, For He is gracious and merciful..." Joel 2:12, 13
